I received an email today from Atok, a member of the GengJurnal blog community informing me of the GengJurnal Gathering 2002. Its a really cool thing that they are doing, and i encourage anyone who has some free time and wants to meet other Malaysian bloggers to check it out.
Atok also told me that during the gathering, the GJ community presents an award for the Best Weblog. Last year, Atok was the sponsor of the award and this year another such award will be presented.
This was my reply to Atok, as i was asked for my opinion about the award...
Dear Atok,
I think its great that the GJ has its own award system. By organizing the event, i'm sure you see the sort of positive effect it has on the bloggers that are part of your community.
The issue that i see as relevant here is that the awards are open only to GJ members. Maybe it might be a good idea to open the awards up to non-GJ members and try and publicise the event by bringing in the local mainstream media as potential sponsors? With the media involved, you'll probably get much more publicity which will in turn help promote the activity of blogging among the Malaysian public (especially the youth). Why not try contact The Star, NST, Berita Harian or maybe some of the local PC/Internet magazines to pick up your competition as media sponsors?
I've come to appreciate how much GJ has done for the malaysian blogging community and i must congratulate you and your community for its efforts. Having a annual gathering is a really cool thing to do. Is there anything that i can do to assist you?
Can i ask a few questions:
1. How many members does GJ have?
2. I've heard that the GJ is mostly malay-language blogs. Is this true?
Take care, God bless.
Peace,
Aizuddin Danian
