I may sound like a prick for saying this, but "Ya Yasmine's loss of her legs during US bombing":http://jeffooi.blogspot.com/2003_05_04_jeffooi_archive.html#93889972 shouldn't be looked upon from an emotional perspective. Yes, its a sad thing that she was hurt; her brother was killed compounding her loss. Yes, the US is at fault for dropping the bombs that did this to her. Yes, "we should sympathize":http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Monday/Frontpage/20030505223313/Article/.
But, no, we shouldn't use her example as a stoke for anti-war (non, anti-US) sentiment. I believe that military action is not an "acceptable foreign policy tool":http://www.usaengage.org/archives/resources/matrix.html, but i also understand that once war does take place, unfortunate, as it may be, people, innocent people are going to get hurt. Stray bullets and bombs are going to kill and maim "those who are guiltless":http://slate.msn.com/id/2079264/.
But lingering on the emotions related to these incidences are not going to make things better now. Instead of still feeling sorry and sad and upset that the war took place, i think the international public needs to focus on how to make the best of the situation. This means "rebuilding Iraq quickly and efficiently":http://www.iht.com/articles/88366.html. If this means using US/Britain methods, so be it. They "rebuilt Europe":http://www.marshallfoundation.org/about_gcm/marshall_plan.htm together after WWII, the US rebuilt Japan (though a photocopy of the "Potsdam Declaration will probably not work in Iraq":http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/issues/iraq/2002/1017japan.htm). They may not always be fair, but they've proven able reconstructionists.
Having said that, some may point out the US' lack of support in rebuilding Afghanistan. Well, i submit that Iraq and Afghanistan are completely different propositions. It doesn't necessarily serve US national interests to rebuild Afghanistan quickly; Iraq has oil that "the US needs injected into the global market":http://www.aizuddindanian.com/voi/archives/000344.html. Money and greed is an excellent motivator.
