Peace no more

Its all in the news: the haven that is Malaysia "is no longer safe":http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1052251574152&call_pageid=968332188492&col=968705899037. We are next on "the terrorist hit-list":http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000080&sid=auCzakw__qps&refer=asia. Flee the cities, head into the mountains, and cower under the protection of banana trees deep in the jungle. Perhaps there, you will be safe.

Malaysia is a high-profile Islamic nation with relatively advanced infrastructures making it a perfect target to make a high-profile terrorist statement. Though the local newspapers report otherwise, the Malaysian government is openly friendly with the Great Satan (*ahem* US) - we have to be: the US is our largest trading partner. The large Western expatriate community here will guarantee global coverage of any attack.

I can only wonder why "such warnings":http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/southeast/05/14/malaysia.us.warnings/ have not been issued earlier. Of course, "our politicians will criticize":http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=5E6142DD-D920-4A1D-8A689D25C1F8B32B the safety warnings issued by the US - but, unlike our local authorities, US intelligence is hardly an oxymoron. Though there can be no absolute safety from terrorism, it can't hurt to "be extra careful from now on":http://www.ivillage.co.uk/newspol/camp/crime/articles/0,10233,185958_186040-1,00.html. Stay alert.

And oh yeah, sell your stocks if you still have any. There may not be worth the paper they're printed on if an attack does occur.
