Peace broker

Its nice to know that Malaysia is doing it's bit to foster "peace and harmony":http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/abs_news_flash_article.asp?FlashOID=9240 in other countries.

bq. Malaysia remained committed to helping broker a political settlement between the Philippine government and the Muslim separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) despite a flare-up of hostilities in the south, President Arroyo said Saturday.

On the surface of things, we make a pretty good peace broker. We've successfully stared the "Communist Insurgency":http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malayan_Emergency in the face and got them to back down; we've kept a multi-racial developing country in one piece for nearly 50 years (look at "Yugoslavia":http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosovo_War and many countries in Africa - they haven't done as good a job); we've got relative peace and security, crime rates are low, the "economy is relatively stable":http://www.jdpa.com/businessservices/automotive/publications/powerreport/200301/0103_outp.htm and generally speaking the populace is content.

On the surface of things, we make an ideal advisor of how to keep a country in order. On the surface of things, the Philippines could use our help with the MILF, Indonesia could use our "help with Aceh":http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/from_our_own_correspondent/2969592.stm.
