Just like you and perhaps millions of others, i've received "spam emails":http://www.mindworkshop.com/alchemy/nospam.html from a Nigerian, an Ivory Coast-an and a Zambian. It can be quite irritating, but i've found some amusement in reading their broken-English appeals for "help" :
bq. DEAR SIR,
bq. PERMIT ME TO INFORM YOU OF MY DESIRE OF GOING INTO BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU. I GOT YOUR NAME AND CONTACT FROM THE IVOIRIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY. I PRAYED OVER IT AND SELECTED YOUR NAME AMOUNG OTHER NAMES...
bq. I AM MR DENIS WANKE, THE ONLY CHILD OF LATE MR AND MRS. PAUL WANKE, MY FATHER WAS A VERY WEALTHY COCOA MERCHANT BASED IN ABIDJAN, THE ECONOMIC CAPITAL OF IVORY COAST BEFORE HE WAS POISONED TO DEATH BY HIS BUSINESS ASSOCIATES ON ONE OF THEIR OUTING TO DISCUSS ON A BUSINESS....
bq. HE SECRETLY CALLED ME ON HIS BEDSIDE AND TOLD ME THAT HE HAS A SUM OF US$16,500,000 (SIXTEEN MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND, UNITED STATES DOLLARS) LEFT IN A SUSPENCE ACCOUNT IN LOCAL BANK HERE IN ABIDJAN, THAT HE USED MY NAME AS HIS ONLY SON FOR THE NEXT OF KIN IN DEPOSIT OF THE FUND.
Well, funny as this may be, its obviously a scam and a crime. Read a heroic account of a couple of guys "on a mission to get a picture of one":http://www.craigmcateer.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/mupesa.htm of these scammers. They succeeded. A truly excellent read. Very highly recommended if you've ever wondered where those annoying emails have been coming from.
