*sigh*

My words are not enough. Let's have the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Zainal Abidin do the talking:

bq. Abdul Hamid said the Film Censorship Board should refer to the Islamic Affairs Department over the film ("Bruce Almighty") in which a man was given the power to be God for a week. “It’s not appropriate to show the film in this country. I don’t know how far the Film Censorship Board has taken action,” he said. - The Star Online

Then i suppose showing movies in which the actors decapicitate each other is ok. Or how about a movie where Americans are blown to pieces (perhaps, dead Americans, even when shown in the most violent matter is something the authorities approve of?). Or a movie where the lead character is a huge green giant which destroys anything in its path (wouldn't want our young, impressionable young Malaysians to be taught that destroying public property is cool, right?). Or perhaps a movie in which the hero is a wizard in white (formerly, gray) robes (isn't believing in the power of sorcery and magic also haram in Islam - syirik)?

Perhaps this latest statement is Datuk Seri's monthly attempt to sound as Islamic as possible. Another fine example of speaking without thinking.

Thanks to Jikon Lai for the pointer.
