Final words on the "spoof"

Barring any unforeseen developments, this will be my final posting on the matter regarding RPK's now-infamous Msg 7002 on the APA Yahoo Groups website.

Many people have written on this blog, and emailed me privately (a few, in a very impolite manner) about how i'm slinging mud at a "great man" and, even if RPK meant what he wrote, it in no way represents KeAdilan and/or the newly-formed Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

I reckon the following email i received from one concerned reader sums up the whole debacle quite well:

bq. Like any successful scam, the hoax worked for two reasons: it seemed believable...

bq. Not exactly a great analogy of RPK's situation. But the reason why so many people believed his so-called spoof was precisely becuase "it seemed believable". In other words, people could believe such ugly bigotry could come out of his mouth. And that, my friend, is Keadilan's problem: people don't trust its multi-racial message. Not with people like RPK making racist spoofs (that backfired).

The point is: just as people don't trust RPK, hence found it "believable" that he could say and mean what he said, voters showed at the last elections that they don't trust KeAdilan either, perhaps due, in part, to its close ties with PAS who have consistently proven to be hypocrites on the issue of race.

And lastly, the reason why KeAdilan (and potentially PKR) will sruggle again in the next elections:

bq. If we are seeking equality, then we must seek it based on a citizenship that doesn't discriminate on an ethnic basis when it comes to public policies.

bq. RPK turns the table and accuses the chinese voters of an en bloc voting pattern that is costing them victories. I find it funny.

bq. If RPK is so aware of the sentiments of Chinese voters, then he should know that it is the affiliation with PAS that is costing them the elections, and that speaks for DAP too. - chez1978

Thank you all for participating in this vital debate - if nothing else, we've enriched ourselves and others who've read out words by making them think about what really matters in this country.
